Hearing from God Part 2

We all need to hear from God especially when faced with the large decisions of life. Most of us do not hear an audible voice so we are forced to find other ways to hear from God. But how does God speak? Far be it from me to limit God to these ways but these are the primary ways I see God "speaking" to us.

God speaks in prayer- while for some of us prayer turns into a laundry list of wants and preferences, prayer also includes a time for patiently listening for God. Some would call this silence and solitude.

God speaks through the Bible- there is a reason the Bible is called the "word of God." It is the most clear, concise, and profitable voice we have of God's intention for us. Just as the Holy Spirit inspired the biblical writers so the Holy Spirit inspires us as we read God's word.

God speaks through his Holy Spirit- this is the nudge or the conviction we just cannot shake. We must be sure this is not just indigestion from a chili dog (more on that in a later post). There is no discounting that God lays upon our hearts what he would have for us.

God speaks through other people- we have to listen for this one. If God can speaks through Balaam's ass then he can speak through any person (even those people we would think it unlikely he would use).
